This friendly little town of around 25,000 inhabitants which received its municipal rights in 1222 is situated on the south-westerly fringes of the Ebbe mountains in Biggetal. The “Biggetalsperre”, which was established in 1965, offers an ideal excursion destination for young (at heart) and old alike. The typically undulating landscape with hills, mountains, forests and lakes is dotted with numerous cycle and hiking trails. Linger a while in the historic old town of Attendorn with its little cafés and cosy bars. There are attractive retail outlets to round off the picture. Short barrier-free lanes lead you through the centre of town and show off what Attendorn has to offer. Other highlights near the centre of town such as the Atta Cave, the southern Sauerland Museum and the Sauerland Cathedral are always worth a visit. Be inspired by Attendorn’s unique style.
The landscape of Lake Biggesee has its own special beauty. In summer, take advantage of the opportunity to swim, fish, camp, pedalo, surf, sail, dive or take a trip on one of the passenger ships of the “Weiße Flotte” (White Fleet). In winter take a pleasant walk and contemplate the scenery. There are designated hiking and cycle trails all around the lake.
